A Call to Action
As a parent and an advocate for the success of our children, I want to take a moment to reflect on some of the challenges and triumphs facing our school, Alexander II. This is a message to my fellow parents, guardians, and community members, because together, we hold the power to make meaningful change.
First, I want to celebrate the remarkable leadership of our principal and assistant principal. These dedicated educators have profoundly shaped our school environment for the better, providing unparalleled guidance, professionalism, and care. For my own children, their leadership has been transformative, and I know I am not alone in feeling this way. Losing them would not just be a loss for Alexander II, but for the district as a whole. Their contributions are invaluable, and we must ensure their talents are recognized and retained.
Yet, we cannot ignore the difficult realities that have surfaced. Many of us have heard the troubling stories from last year’s first-grade classrooms. The frequent disruptions and behavioral challenges left children feeling scared and distressed, and the resulting academic setbacks are a direct consequence. Let’s be clear, these challenges are not the fault of any child. Behavioral issues in young students are a shared responsibility for all of us as adults to address. Our children deserve a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive without fear, and it’s up to us to create and sustain that space.
Another concerning issue is the number of lawsuits and settlements tied to the special education program. The resources spent on preventable litigation could and should be redirected toward addressing root causes. While legal defense is sometimes unavoidable, the focus must remain on proactive solutions that prioritize the well-being of our students and staff. Settlements should never take precedence over investing in meaningful, preventive action.
One of the most alarming aspects of these issues is the lack of support from district personnel for our school leadership and staff. Instead of addressing the real problems at hand, the board is removing key administration who followed the directives of their leaders. This does nothing to solve the core challenges. It only obscures them, leaving the underlying issues to fester. Additionally, personal relationships must never influence decisions regarding settlements or policy; our focus must remain firmly on what’s best for our children.
We also face the risk of losing exceptional educators and staff who may understandably feel unsupported. Alexander II is not just a good school; it is one of the best in the county and the state. Its success depends on the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly every day for our students. We cannot afford to let a lack of support drive them away.
As parents and community members, we must stay united and resolute. Our children’s success is, and will always remain, our top priority. I, for one, am committed to working with the district, the school board, and anyone else who shares that commitment. This is not about creating adversarial relationships, it’s about accountability, transparency, and the shared goal of ensuring that Alexander II continues to shine as a beacon of excellence.
I know that some information cannot be shared openly, but I am more than willing to speak with anyone to privately to share appropriate information who wants to understand these issues further. Together, let’s ensure that Alexander II remains the nurturing, high-achieving school that our children deserve.
Our collective voice can—and will—make a difference.

FOIA Requests
As part of this effort we are making several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Open Records Requests (ORR). The table below will be used to track their status and results.
It would seem our friends at the Macon Melody are looking for the same information. I strongly recommend getting a subscription to their excellent newspaper.
